Application Service Elements Used in P7

  • The Message Submission Service Element (MSSE) allows a User Agent to submit a message to an entity it is connected with (eg. MTA, MS). This is associated with the P7 protocol. This uses the Indirect Submission Port.

  • The Message Retrieval Service Agent (MRSE) allows a User Agent to get or look at a message from the Message Store. This is associated with the P7 protocol. This uses the retrieval port.

  • The Message Administration Service Element (MASE) helps the UA to take care of administrative functions. This uses the Administration Port.

    P7 Protocol

The P7 Protocol is the interconnect the UA to the Message Store directly. With the P7 protocol the User Agent can examine and recieve of messages in a selective fashion. The User Agent need not always be available and the Message Store can deliver or remove meesages according to the criteria the User Agent sets. This means that unwanted messages can be found and deleted and one can go through messages selectively so that time isn't wasted. All the commands are capable of performing different services with different paramters.

Using the Message Submission Service Element in P7 provides:

  • Message Submission (can be deferred and at different priorities). Submit uses paramters including:
  • Probe Submission (see if the message can get through) . Probe is an abbreviated message and uses the following parameters it returns UA content id.
  • Cancel Deferred Delivery (this may or may not be possible depending on what has happened since submitting the message) paramter event_id.
  • Submission Control (temporarily rest applications). Any of the following states can be used:

The Message Retrieval Service Element provides:

  • Summarise (summary of messages accoring to criteria) This counts the entries according to criteria, default is the stored message information base which can be set by MS-Register
  • List Lists on any base, (e.g. priority, originators ORName)
  • Fetch (according to order you set with parameters) Fetches selected attributes in information base, default is the stored message base if the parameter requested-attributes is null.
  • Delete . Delete deletes selected information from information base, parent and child entries are deleted together, nothing can be deleted if the status is new, can delete according to some filter or a list of sequence numbers, default information base
  • Register-MS can register:

  • Alert warns new entry or as Register-MS is set up

The Message Administration Service Element provides:

  • Register (register a UA at a MTA)
  • Change Credentials
